Product Details

Good example of an antique American oil lamp to be used alongside microscopes to produce the light source. It dates from the mid to late 1800s and is made of brass with a heavy circular base. It has a glass oil reservoir with a single burner on the top and a glass chimney. The height of the burner is adjustable by a small brass tightening knob. There is also a large convex lens on an adjustable arm to further direct the light source towards the microscope.

The end of the wick turner is marked with the maker's name "Holmes, Booth & Haydens. Waterbury. CT".
It is in good condition for its age. It has been cleaned and the brass has been lightly polished and it displays very nicely. All parts seem to move as they should. I have not tested the burner but it looks in good order and the wick turner moves freely so I see no reason why it wouldn't work. The only point to note is there is a small crack in the bottom of the glass chimney (see photo)
The lamp comes in its original pine box with brass carrying handle and latch. The box is in good condition with a few age related marks and knocks but nothing detrimental.
Approximate Measurements :
