A good quality walnut writing desk dating from the late 19th century. The top has an inset red leather writing surface with gilt tooled edge and it stands on elegant bulbous turned tapering legs with the original ceramic castors. It has two drawers each with brass plate handles which, although aren't original, suit the piece well. There is good legroom clearance of 23" (58.5cm).
The desk is in good condition. It has a lovely warm colour and the writing surface is in good order. The leather has shrunk away slightly on the back edge (see photo) but it isn't really detrimental. The drawers open well and are generally clean and tidy inside with a few old marks and ink stains. There are normal signs of light wear and age but no major damages and it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
