Superb Victorian Polyphon produced in the late 19th Century in Leipzig, Germany. It is contained within its original painted wooden box which looks to have been painted to simulate Rosewood. The lid is decorated with a floral motif and "Troubadour"
in a flowing scroll. Below the lid is the original paper insert showing a traditionally dressed woman and man playing the guitar.
The music player is operated by a clockwork mechanism and even after 120 years or more the sound is beautiful. It is wound with its brass key from the top of the player and plays one full rotation of a disc.
It is a standard sized player, playing 7'" discs. It has 30 teeth on a 2 1/2" steel comb that plays the most intricate of discs effortlessly. It has been thoroughly cleaned and serviced and is in good working order and a video can be provided of it playing. The teeth are all in tact and in good condition.
The Troubadour comes with 5 original discs that play well. Some discs still have the names on and among those included are Sweet Marie, Dresdina and Daisy Bell. Traditionally the music is a Waltz or similar.
The box itself is also in nice condition with no major damage, just a few small knocks and light scratches commensurate with age. The box measures approximately 8 1/2" wide by 7" deep by 6" high
