A large treen Lignum Vitae sailor's fid dating from the early 19th Century. It is made from heart and sap wood and has ring turned decoration to the head. These fids were used for splicing ropes.
It has a natural rich colour and has developed a lovely patina. It is in good solid order with no cracks or damages. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and displays beautifully.
