A beautiful wooden egg cup set dating from the early to mid 1800s. There are six individual turned eggcups on a wooden stand with metal pins to hold the cups. It is a fabulous example of treen and is made from a mixture of elm and fruitwoods.
It is excellent quality and has developed a wonderful patina with lovely grain and colour.
It is in very good condition for its age. There are signs of age and use, some minor knocks and marks and an old repaired shrinkage split in the foot (see photo) but nothing untoward or detrimental. The top turned part of the stand has a slight warp in it which has developed over the years. It hasn't affected its stability and adds a nice bit of character. It has been gently cleaned and polished and displays beautifully.
