An unusual chip carved softwood 'tramp art' wall cabinet dating from the mid to late 19th century. It has intricate fret carved panels with a triangular pediment and lots of geometric carved detailing. It has a crude signature and date on a panel near the bottom which looks like it reads "J.Jay 18.8.1863".
The front of the cabinet hinges open to reveal a small drawer on the inside with fret carved front panel and small turned ebonised knob. The interior has been lined in a faux woodgrain paper and there are some brass hooks where it has obviously once been used as a key cabinet.
It is a very decorative piece and it is in good condition for its age. There are a few small knocks and marks around the outside, general signs of age and use and a couple of small chips and losses but no major damages and overall it displays well.
