Lovely original antique spice box, with six individual metal boxes : Cinnamon, Mace, Cloves, Nutmeg, Allspice, Ginger.
It is painted black with a green interior and there are signs of the original painted red lining on the back. It has its original nutmeg grater stored in the lid. What is particularly special about this box is that it contains all of its original spices and so makes a beautiful display piece. I doubt the spices are still fit for consumption but could always be replaced with new spices.
It has been well used and has developed the most beautiful aged patina which really sets off the whole piece. The paint has flaked and rubbed and there are small patches of rust showing through however the hinges are strong and the spice compartments are in good order. Each box has a small catch keeping it shut but two of the boxes are missing these catches. Overall it displays beautifully and is certainly usable too.
