Good example of an Egyptian style 'Thebes' stool. It is made of oak and is of traditional form with three splayed curved legs and a shaped top, carved with Egyptian inspired motifs and writing. The carvings are beautiful and the whole stool is excellent quality and a superb piece of design.
It is in good condition for its age and has a lovely rich patina. At some point in its life the legs have been reinforced with a metal bracket and there has been an old professional repair to a break at the top of one of the legs (see photos) but the stool is very strong and sturdy and the repairs don't detract from what is a lovely piece. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and displays beautifully.
