Good example of a late 19th / early 20th Century technical drawing set contained within its original fitted wooden box. The box is superb quality with a brass inlaid escutcheon engraved 'D.J.A' and a fitted velvet line interior. There are 10 individual brass instruments and accessories fitted inside the case, one with a bone (cow / bovine) handle. The top layer lifts out to reveal more storage space below which currently houses 2 old rulers and 2 drawing tools. The padded lining in the lid also pulls down to reveal another section behind for storing paper or flat instruments.
Approximate Measurements (box):
Length : 8" (20cm)
Width : 4 1/2" (12cm)
Height : 1 1/2" (4cm)
The whole set is in good condition for its age. It has obviously been well looked after and all the instruments are in good condition. There is some minor wear and light tarnishing / rust on some of the metal parts but nothing detrimental. The wooden box is in good condition with just some light scuffs and surface scratches. The paper behind the lid lining is torn and the silk tab to lift out the top layer has frayed on one side but overall it displays very well.
