Product Details

A superb colonial writing box made of teak dating from the late 19th century. It has recessed brass military style handles, brass corners, brass strapping and the name "J.Kendall" inset into the lid in brass. It comes with a working key. Inside, the lid of the box is fitted with a series of stationery and paper racks that can be pulled forwards with the metal catch above. The box itself has a large shaped pen tray, two spaces for inkwells with sliding wooden lids and storage compartments with lift up lids. The whole of the top tray lifts out to reveal a large storage area below.

It is a lovely looking box and it is in very good condition for its age. It has been cleaned and the brass has been gently polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are no major damages. There are some signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks, a repaired chip by one back hinge and some old repairs to splits in the stationery rack but nothing untoward or detrimental.
