A lovely sussex style country chair with a rush seat dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. It has straight arms supported by a single spindle. It has simple straight legs and unusual triple front stretchers, the top one worn beautifully over the years. The back of the chair has similar narrow horizontal spindles which have also worn and patinated beautifully.
It is in good condition for its age and has a wonderful rich colour and lovely patina. It is a good sturdy chair with no major damages or breakages and the rush is in good order. There are signs of age and use, some old plugged repairs to the joints but nothing detrimental. One front leg has worn away a few centimetres more than the other which has left the chair with a charming slight lean to the one side.
The chair stands approximately 32" (81cm) high and arm to arm the chair is 19" (48cm) wide. The seat is 16" (41cm deep) and 15 3/4" (40cm) high.
