Product Details

Beautiful original theodolite manufactured in the early 20th Century. The Theodolite itself has a gun metal finish and is made from lacquered brass with brass fittings. It is engraved with "A&N C.S.L" which stands for the Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd, who made items to be sold to military personnel or used in colonies overseas. It is a high quality instrument with an extendable telescope and a large spirit level. It screws into a mount that could then sit atop a tripod.

It comes in its original fitted mahogany box which has a lovely aged patina and a working key and lock. The box is in good order and displays well and still has its original leather carrying strap. There are some signs of age and some general knocks and marks but nothing detrimental. It has a paper label in the lid which reads "Cowell & Associates" who were architects in Hampshire who must have owned the level at some point.
It truly is a stunning instrument and it is in excellent condition. The instrument and brass fittings have been lightly cleaned and the parts lubricated and it displays very nicely. The lenses are undamaged and the optics are remarkably clear with just some small specks on the lenses. The clarity and range is incredible and the cross-lines are still in good order. It is not a new instrument and is really sold as a collectors item than a working scientific instrument.
The theodolite measures 11 1/2" long, plus some further extension. The box is 12" long by 6" tall by 4" deep.
