Product Details

Superb set of 19th century surgeon's instruments, specifically to be used during Post Mortems. The set is complete and original and contains a saw, a bone chisel, scissors, tweezers and an interchangeable handle among other things. There is also a lift-out section which reveals a further hooked instrument below. There is an inset maker's plaque inside the box and the instruments are also signed.

The whole set is contained within its original fitted oak case with sections to hold every instrument. The exterior has a brass inset shield escutcheon on the lid and matching escutcheon around the keyhole. There are brass catches either side to keep it closed and it also comes with its original working key.
It is a fantastic piece and in excellent original condition. The instruments are as they were the day the set was put away, still oiled to prevent rusting. There is some tarnishing on the metal in places and general signs of use but nothing detrimental. The box is in good condition with no major damages and the brass work has been lightly polished.
