Product Details

Very fine example of a hand made papier mache Pope Joan game wheel. 'Pope Joan' is a card game that dates back as early as the 1700s. This segmented turntable holds the players' counters or 'bets'. It has 6 segments, each with a different card painted on it. The wheel is set on a round base and spins around when turned.

Approximate Measurements :
Diameter : 10" (26cm)
Height : 2" (5cm)
The wheel is in good original condition with the original hand painted decoration still bright and vibrant. It has been well used over the years and very well looked after but as to be expected there are patches of paint flaking and some cracks running through the papier mache and some general small scuffs here and there picked up through use. However there is no major damage to report and nothing that detracts from its overall look which is one of age and history. The top rotates well on its base
