Lovely example of a complete set of Victorian hydrometer proof floats, used to measure and regulate the alcohol content in drinks. This small pocket sized set was used by the inspector to quickly and instantly test drinks. There are twelve different weighted glass beads each with a number on the top from 22-34. Inside the lid is the original paper label which reads "For Proof Spirits. If it be proof, the bead will sink to the bottom." and there is an accompanying table which corresponds the numbers of the beads to the different types of spirits.
