A good antique blanket box dating from the late 19th century. It is made of pine which has been painted with a grained effect to simulate elm. It has a lovely warm colour and is a very attractive piece. It has metal carrying handles and inside it has its original strap hinges and a small candle box. Below the candle box is a secret drawer, accessed by lifting the side of the candle box.
A good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks and small losses and wear to the paint here and there but nothing untoward or detrimental. One carrying handle has been replaced at some point but it is a very close match to the other side. The box has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
