Product Details

A good example of an antique 'penny' style carver chair dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. It has a thick round shaped seat, spindle back and scrolling arms supported by turned spindles. It stands on four turned legs joined by a H-stretcher.

The chair stands approximately 40" (102cm) high and it is 21 1/2" (55cm) wide across the arms. The seat is 20" (51cm) deep and 18" (46cm) high.

It is in good original condition with a nice rich patina where the old stain has worn attractively on the arms and seat. It is strong and sturdy with no major damages. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks on the seat and around the legs but nothing detrimental. There are a couple of old worm holes which have all been treated as a precaution and haven't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
