A lovely large pine storage chest set of raised feet with original painted decoration and dated 1835. The chest has its original blacksmith-made lock and key which still works and also its original hinges, metal carrying handles and internal candle box. It is painted a burnt red / orange with a blue lid and a wonderful naive design with 'Anno 1835' painted on the front. Chests like this were often given to commemrate a marriage, hence why they were dated.
It is in good condition and is generally clean and tidy inside and out. The hinges are strong and it has been cleaned and given a smooth waxed finish. There is an old split across the lid and some old woodworm holes around the box but no other major damages and it is strong and sturdy. It has a wonderful aged patina and displays beautifully.
