A charming country oak clerk’s desk on later stand. The clerk's writing slope dates from the 18th century and has a wonderful patina with blacksmith made hinges and a handmade metal lock plate. The slope is on a later made stand, very well made in the 18th century style. It has a drawer with brass swan neck handle and turned legs joined by a H-stretcher.
It is in good condition and the oak has developed a wonderful rich colour over the years. It has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The interior is in good condition with a few old splits and stains but nothing detrimental and the drawer opens smoothly and is clean and tidy inside. There are general signs of age and use, small old knocks, splits and marks but no major damage and the piece is strong and sturdy and displays very well.
