A good oak chest of drawers dating from the early to mid 19th Century. They have two short over three long drawers and are made of solid oak with a mahogany crossbanded edge. They stand on bracket feet and have brass plate handles which although are not original do suit the piece well. The drawers open smoothly, having had the runners recently repaired or replaced.
They are in good condition for their age. They have developed a lovely warm patina and are strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use and they have picked up some small knocks, and marks but nothing detrimental. There are some old shrinkage splits in the sides and signs of old worm at the rear of the chest and in the back boards which has all been treated as a precaution. There are a few old stains and marks inside the drawers but they have been cleaned and gently polished and are ready for use.
