A good small antique pine box dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. It has its original 'red oxide' stained finish, original metal carrying handles and metal strap hinges. There is a brass plaque on the top engraved with the name "W.Olford". It is likely this was a military trunk and would have been taken around with the owner. There are small holes in the sides of the trunk above the handles which would have had a rope through them for holding it in place during transport or connecting it to other trunks belonging to the same person. It is a good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk. It comes with the original working key.
It is in good condition for its age and has a lovely patina. It is strong and sturdy and it is clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, some general knocks, marks and small chips and areas where the stain has worn. There are signs of old woodworm around the base which has all been treated as a precuation and has not affected the trunk aesthetically or structurally. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
