A good example of a Victorian metal document box with original black painted finish and original hand written name "J.Thomson Esq'e. 72nd High's" .
The 72nd Highlanders was a British Army Infantry Regiment formed in 1786 and active until 1881. A box like this would have been used in record keeping and for wage payment.
The box has two recessed metal carrying handles and comes with a working key. Inside it has a brass inkwell and a pen tray and a large lift out tray.
