Product Details

A good example of a Victorian metal document box with original black painted finish and original hand written name "J.Thomson Esq'e. 72nd High's" .

The 72nd Highlanders was a British Army Infantry Regiment formed in 1786 and active until 1881. A box like this would have been used in record keeping and for wage payment.

The box has two recessed metal carrying handles and comes with a working key. Inside it has a brass inkwell and a pen tray and a large lift out tray.

The box is in good condition for its age and has a lovely worn and aged patina. There are no major damages however there are various surface scratches, marks, paint loss and small dinks but overall it displays very nicely and the inside is clean and tidy.
