A good example of an early 20th Century technical drawing set contained within its original fitted wooden box. The box is superb quality with a brass inlaid escutcheon and a fitted velvet lined interior. There are 8 individual brass and steel instruments and accessories fitted inside the case plus a ruler. The padded silk lining in the lid pulls down to reveal a section behind for storing paper or flat instruments. The lining is marked with the maker's / retailer's name : "W.E&F Newton. Opticians. Globe Manufacturers to Her Majesty. 3 Fleet Street. London."
Approximate Measurements (box):
Length : 7 1/2" (19cm)
Width : 4 1/4" (11cm)
Height : 3/4" (2cm)
The whole set is in good condition for its age. It has obviously been well looked after and all the instruments are in good condition. There are two small empty sections in the fitted layer but it still displays well. There is some minor wear and light tarnishing / rust on some of the metal parts but nothing detrimental. The wooden box is in good condition with just some light scuffs and surface scratches although it is missing its front closing latches.
