Antique Mahogany Specimen Drawers
A good quality set of specimen drawers dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. They are made of mahogany with a brass carrying handle on the top and an unusual side locking mechanism that secures all drawers in place with just one key.
Chests such as this were used for storing all sorts of things - collectors would use them to store samples in, whether that be rocks, butterflies, eggs or coins etc. This particular chest has seven drawers, graduating in depth from top to bottom, each with a small brass knob.
Overall it is in good original condition and is certainly a very usable piece. There are signs of age and use and the cabinet has picked up some minor knocks and small marks over the years but the drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly.
