A lovely mahogany campaign desk dating from the late 19th Century. Typical of campaign furniture it is excellent quality and very solidly built. It is a pedestal desk with 1 long map drawer below the writing surface and a further 6 short drawers in the pedestals. The drawers have small turned wooden knobs and the desk stands on turned bun feet. The top of the desk has an inset green leather writing surface with gilt tooled edge. There is a raised gallery around the edge which is pegged into small holes and hinges at the corners to fold when removed. It has all its original brass locks and one is stamped 1891.
The desk is in good condition for its age. It has been well travelled but has a good look and has been well maintained. It has a lovely rich patina and the drawers open well. There is some fading and general marks, knocks, small chips and signs of age but nothing detrimental. One knob has been replaced and the feet are also later replacements.
