A lovely mahogany writing desk dating from the early 19th Century. It has one long drawer above two smaller drawers and each drawer has turned mahogany knobs. The top has four inset green leather writing surfaces with tooled edges. The largest central surface can be raised up on an easel back and the angle can be adjusted to suit and this was often a feature of an architect's desk. The desk stands on square legs with brass cap castors and there is a raised shaped gallery around the top edge.
It is a good large size and is an excellent quality piece with boxwood strung borders above the legs and a lovely colour and patina to the timbers.
The desk is in good condition for its age. There are some minor signs of wear and use, some light surface marks, small chips and knocks but nothing detrimental. The drawers are generally clean and tidy. There are some old marks on the leather but no major damages. The desk has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
