A fine example of a beautiful leather Gladstone style Jewellery box dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. The outer of the case is clad in a very deep purple, almost black, grained leather with the gold initials 'E.M.H' on the top. It has a carrying handle and below this is a brass lock that when pushed in releases the latch.
It opens out to reveal a plush fitted tray with a section for rings. This tray lifts out and below is a large storage compartment with a series or original plush cushions for separating layers of jewellery or attaching brooches.
It is in good condition for its age and displays well. The plush linings are in good condition with no rips or tears and just some minor marks and small stains. There are some general signs of age and use around the outer of the case, some minor scuffs on the corners but nothing detrimental. It does not come with a key but this doesn't stop it being fully closed and the handle being able to be used.
