An original wooden hat stretcher dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. It is made in two halves, joined by metal dowels with an adjustable metal screw to either push apart or pull together the two halves. It sits on a thick wooden base with an ivorine sizing chart under the movable section of the stretcher.
The wood has developed a beautiful rich patina over the years. It is a good quality item and is in good original condition with no major damages. It has picked up some signs of age and use, some scratches and knocks and small surface marks that all add to the patina but nothing that detracts from its overall appeal. There are a couple of old woodworm holes which have all been treated as a precaution and don't concern us. It is certainly still a usable item and it displays very nicely.
