A lovely set of antique Post Office letter scales dating from the early 20th century. The scales are made of brass with brass pans - one round for the weights and one flat and square for the letters to be weighed. The beam is marked "Class B. To Weigh 8oz" and the flat pan is marked "G.P.O. De Grave Short & Co Ltd". They also come with a set of stacking brass weights from 4oz to 1/2oz.
The set is in very good condition and displays well. The brass has tarnished over time and there are signs of age and use and some minor marks but nothing detrimental. Although complete, they are really being sold as a decorative collectors item rather than an accurate scientific instrument.
