A good example of a high quality brass microscope complete with two objective lenses and two eyepieces dating from the late 19th Century. The microscope parts are made of lacquered brass and it sits on a weighted horseshoe shaped base. The eyepiece tube is manually adjusted to provide the coarse focus and there is an additional fine focus wheel on the back. It has a square stage with one slide clip. Below the staging is a mirror to focus the light and a pinwheel. The tube is marked with the maker's name "E.Hartnack & A.Prazmowski, Paris".
There are two brass objective lenses with stacking lenses to provide a range of different focuses. There are also two brass eyepiece lenses.
The microscope appears to be in good working order and I have set it up and tested it with a few old slides. The microscope was easy to focus with both the main focus and the fine focus, and produced a clear and crisp image. I
'm sure the lenses would benefit from a light clean and although in working order it is really being sold as a decorative / collectors item rather than an accurate scientific instrument.
Overall it is in good condition but it has been used and will have normal signs of wear. The brass has been lightly cleaned and polished but there are some areas of tarnish and wear to the lacquer and some surface scratches but overall it displays well.
The microscope comes in it's original fitted mahogany box with sections for the lenses and an additional storage compartment. The box is stamped with the serial number "22941". The box measures 11" high by 6" wide and 4" deep. The box is in good order but we do not have a key.
