A fine example of an unusual French casket dating from the early to mid 19th Century. The fabric outer is decorated with hand embroidered chinoiserie style birds and velvet edging. There is also an embroidered monogram on the top and ornate brass carrying handles on the sides. It stands on four brass ball feet and comes with a working key.
The interior is lined in a pale blue silk and would suit a variety of uses from a sewing box to a document box.
It is in good condition for its age and displays beautifully. It has a lovely patina with signs of age and wear but no major damages. The fabric outer is worn in places and there are some light surface marks and stains but nothing detrimental. The embroidery is in good order and the interior is generally clean and tidy. It has been gently cleaned and is ready for use.
