Product Details

An attractive ebonised writing bureau dating from the late 19th Century / early 20th Century and most likely originating from France. It has nice small proportions and stands on turned tapering legs. The curved shaped front opens out and the writing desk slides forwards to reveal a beautiful birds eye maple interior with a leather writing surface and two small drawers. Above this are two further drawers and below are an additional two drawers, each with small turned knobs.

We have the original key which locks the writing surface and the two drawers below.

It is in good condition for its age and the ebonised finish has a richness to it and some slight wear in places that have been touched and handled the most. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The leather writing surface is beautifully worn but still usable. There are no major damages and the piece is strong and sturdy. There are general signs of age and use, some old knocks and marks, small splits to the exterior and an old split across the birds eye maple of the interior but nothing detrimental. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside.
