A good example of an antique Windsor farmhouse chair dating from the late 19th century. It has a wonderfully shaped elm seat with curved arms supported by turned spindles. It is high backed with turned spindles supporting an arched top rail. It stands on ring turned legs joined by a H-stretcher. It is stamped on the back of the seat with makers initials FL.
The chair stands approximately 42" (107cm) high. It has quite narrow proportions and outside arm to arm is 21" (53cm) wide. The seat is 18" (46cm) deep and 17" (43cm) high.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use with some minor marks on the seat and around the legs and a couple of minor old shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental. It has developed a wonderful rich patina and the chair has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
