A superb 19th Century extending fire fender. The base is made of iron and joined with a brass bar with a pair of elegant reclining Greyhounds on each end above an ornate brass floral mount. The fender can be extended by a few inches either end by moving the brass rod. At its shortest it is approximatley 43 1/2" (111cm) long and this can be extended up to 48" (122cm).
It is in good condition for its age. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and has developed a superb patination over the years. The right hand greyhound has had a small repair to a break on his front legs (see photo) and there is a small dent towards the back of the fender but neither are particularly detrimental and it displays beautifully.
