Product Details

A lovely antique country armchair with a rush seat dating from the early 19th century. It has a tall back with traditional ladderback style design and nicely shaped spindles. It has shaped elm arms and stands on bulbous front legs with pad feet, joined by a turned stretcher.

It is in good condition for its age and has a wonderful rich colour and lovely patina. It is a good sturdy and comfortable chair and the seat has recently been re-rushed. There have been some historic repairs over the years with a repair to the back of one arm and it looks like the bottom spindle between the front legs has been replaced at some point. There are of course signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and it displays well.

The chair stands approximately 41" (104cm) high. Arm to arm the chair is 23" (59cm) wide and it is 19" (48cm) deep. The seat is 16" (41cm deep) and 17 1/2" (45cm) high.
