An attractive and good quality 'Smoker's Bow' or 'Captain's' armchair dating from the early 20th Century. It has a comfortable wide and deep elm seat with broad arms, turned spindles and turned legs joined by a double stretcher.
It is stamped on the rear of the seat with the maker’s initials “H.S.”
It is approximately 30” (76cm) high and it is 25 1/2” (65cm) wide across the arms. The seat is approximately 19” (48cm) deep and 17 1/4" (44cm) high.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. It has developed a nice aged patina where the stain has worn on the seat and the ends of the arms. The chair is not without a few small marks and signs of age and use but no major damages or anything detrimental.
