A good antique elm blanket box dating from the late 19th century with a lovely rich patina. It is well made with brass carrying handles and inside it has its original strap hinges and a small candle box. A good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks and a few small chips and splits but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are signs of old woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the box structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
