A good antique elm blanket box dating from the late 19th century with an attractive mellow patina. It is well made a small brass escutcheon and metal carrying handles. It has its original blacksmith-made hinges although the middle one is missing. It is a good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks and some old splits in the floor but nothing detrimental. There are signs of old woodworm around the plinth and base which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the box structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
