Product Details

A superb example of a rare antique writing slope dating from the early 19th Century. It has beautiful panels of burr wood, possibly walnut or satinwood, bordered by ebony with inlaid stringing and a tightly turned border. The sides of the box look to be a rosewood or coromandel and it has a mother of pearl cartouche and matching escutcheon.

Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It has an old brass lidded glass inkwell, a pen tray and a small lidded compartment. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below.

It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use around the box, some marks and light knocks but there are no major damages and it displays beautifully.
