A good example of an antique brass box dating from the late 19th Century. It is typical of Dowry type boxes or spice boxes. It likely originates from India and is shaped into an oval with ornate stylised strapping, hinges and a small handle on the top. The box opens to reveal two compartments, one with a hinged lid.

It is in good condition and is strong and sturdy with a lovely rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some minor surface marks and a few small dents but no major damages. The brass has tarnished over time and has been gently cleaned to retain its aged patina. I don't have a key for the lock but the catch pushes shut and holds in place.
