Product Details

A fine example of a beautiful antique travelling decanter box. It dates from the early 1800s and is most likely Dutch. The box is fitted inside with 4 compartments for large glass decanters. In the middle is a lift up section which holds 3 glass tumblers and in the lid of the box another stemmed tasting glass is stored.

The square glass decanters are hand blown and have their original gilt decoration around the shoulders and come with their original stoppers. This gilt decoration is repeated around the tasting glass and the tumblers also have gilt rims.

The glasses are all in good condition for their age apart from one decanter which has been broken around the neck and re-glued (see photo). There is some wear and rubbing to the gilding and other small nibbles to the glass here and there but no major damages.

The box itself is made of mahogany with inlaid shell motifs on the front and top and it has two small carrying handles on the sides. It is in good condition for its age with a nice patina. There are some signs of age and use, some small marks and knocks and an old split on the back but nothing detrimental. It does not come with a key.

Approximate Measurements (box) :

Height : 8" (20cm)

Width : 10 1/4" (26cm)

Depth : 7" (18cm)
