Product Details

Great example of an early 20th Century dinner chime, manufactured by Deagan in Chicago. Chimes like this were used on railroads for announcing dinner service.

It is a good quality instrument with 5 chimes and a thick base giving it a deep and resonating chime. It also comes with a wooden handled beater.

It has its original paper 'Deagan' maker's label on the underside. It is marked on the side "Sole agents. Rushworth & Dreaper. Liverpool" so was obviously a model made for export and sale in the UK.

It is in good condition for its age and makes a beautiful sound when struck. There are some marks on the metal chimes where it has been struck over the years and also on the top of the case. There are some light scratches around the sides of the case and other minor signs of age but nothing detrimental. The wooden handle on the beater has broken and been repaired (see photo) but it is a good repair and is strong and sturdy.

A pproximate Measurements :

Width : 11" (28cm)

Length : 11" (28cm)

Height : 3" (8cm)

Length of beater : 8" (20cm)
