A beautiful antique games box made of the finest Coromandel wood with a contrasting Satinwood interior. The front of the box folds down to reveal 4 sections for holding packs of cards. The middle tray holds three dice and this lifts out to reveal a further section below which holds some red and white gaming counters.
There is a brass maker's plaque inside the box which reads "W.J.Thompson. Ashford. Kent". There is also a diamond registration mark which accurately dates its registration to 6th September 1871.
The box is superb quality and is in good condition for its age. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are some minor surface marks and a small chip in the bottom corner (see photo) but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully. There is no key for the box.
