A superb Victorian writing slope made of the most beautiful burr walnut with secret drawers and a working Bramah lock and key.
The top and front of the box are burr walnut with the most stunning colour and grain. The corners and edges are bound in brass with matching brass plate escutcheon and cartouche.
Inside, the box is fitted with a green leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with both of its original glass inkwells and a pen tray. There is a secret compartment with 3 small drawers below the front leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell. The box comes with its original working Bramah key and lock and additional key for locking the inside lift-up surface.
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely. The leather writing surface is showing some minor signs of age and is worn along a little the crease but still looks good inside the box and is very usable. There are some small old knocks and marks around the outside of the box and general signs of light use and age but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
