Product Details

Lovely old helmet-style binnacle fitted with a gimbaled compass. It is housed in brass with a glass front and a hinged side door revealing the original oil burner within. It sits on a turned wooden base. The compass is mounted on a metal mount which allows it to swivel and turn, designed to do so to compensate the movement on a boat. The compass has a brass rim and a traditional black and white face stamped "KH/7660L/66".

Approximate Measurements :

Height : 9" (23cm)

Base Diameter : 9 1/2" (24cm)

Diameter of Glass : 5" (13cm)

The compass is in good condition for its age and has been cleaned and lightly polished and displays beautifully. It has picked up various minor marks, scuffs and signs of use and some small dinks but nothing detrimental. The brass has tarnished over time and the glass has a few surface marks but nothing major. The compass itself is in working order and is, as far as I can tell, fairly accurate. It moves well in the gimbal mount and the face is clean.
