A lovely set of antique letter scales dating from the early 20th century. The scales themselves are brass and they are set on a good quality shaped wooden base. The scales come with a set of five brass weights weighing 4oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz and 1/2oz. The weighing platform is marked with "postal rates" and there is a plaque on the base detailing 'foreign letter rates'.
The set is in good original condition. They have been lightly cleaned and polished to retain their natural patina and aged look. The brass has tarnished with age and there are some small knocks and scuffs around the base but no major damages. The scales appear to work as they should do but I have not tested them for accuracy and they are really being sold as a decorative item rather than an accurate scientific set of scales.
