A very nice collection of microscope slides dating from the early 20th Century. The slides are all of a Botanical subject and many have 'Botany' on the label. Some notable slides include 'transverse section of raspberry stem', 'section of leaf of violet' and 'ovary of potato'. Each slide has been hand prepared on a glass slide and has a hand written paper label.
The slides are contained within a specially made wooden box with hinged lid and front. The box is stamped inside 'C.Baker. 244 High Holborn. London. Optical and Scientific Instrument ....'. The box has 12 drawers each designed to hold 6 slides, however the bottom drawer is empty, meaning there are 66 slides in total.
The set is in good condition for its age. The box has a chip on the back across the hinge and a small chip on the front door but its is strong and sturdy and displays well. There are 3 slides in the collection which have had the glass broken but it hasn't affected the subject (see photo). The rest of the slides are in very good condition.
Each slide measures approximately 3" (8cm) long by 1" (3cm) wide. The box measures 4 1/2" (11cm) wide by 8 1/4" (21cm) long by 3 1/2" (9cm) high.
