A good example of an authentic African carved wooden elephant stool dating from the early 20th Century. It likely originates from the Ashanti Tribe of Ghana. It is of traditional form with the elephant stood on a flat base with a curved seat on his back. It is excellent quality and the detail of carving around his face and tail are lovely.
It is in good condition for its age and has a lovely rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some minor old marks and knocks and a repair to the end of one tusk but nothing detrimental and it displays very well. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
