Product Details

A good example of a mid-century bearing plate set on a blackened gimbal mount, allowing for movement aboard a ship. It comes complete a movable coarse dial and azimuth ring with sun-shades. The instrument is contained within its original good quality wooden box. The original paper label is still in the lid of the box and it is stamped on the front "Patt.42.Bearing Plate".

There are no maker's marks but I've been told they were made exclusively for the admiralty.
The bearing plate is in excellent condition. The mount is clean with no paint loss and the face is unmarked. All parts move as they should and it sits well on the gimbal mount. The box is sturdy and has the original leather strap and metal latches to keep it closed. The box is not without some light marks and old splits but nothing detrimental.
Approximate Measurments:
Diameter of Plate : 5" (13cm)
Box : 8" (20cm) square x 5 1/2" (14cm) high
