Product Details

A nice example of an oak Sword Chest dating from the early 18th Century. It is a traditional 6-plank form standing on shaped end feet. It has attractive chip edge carvings and simple linear carving on the front. There are naively carved initials "IM' on one side.

It has a hinged lid and is generally clean and tidy inside with its original candle box. The lock and lock plate have been removed at some point and the hinges have been changed but overall it displays well.

It is in good condition for its age and has developed a beautiful rich patina. There have been some historic repairs including to one leg but it is strong and sturdy and there are no major damages. There are of course signs of age and use, some knocks and marks and minor stains but nothing detrimental. The chest has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
